Mae Sai-flommen trekker seg tilbake, men Ping-elven stiger
04.10.2024Flommen i Mae Sai-distriktet i Chiang Rai har avtatt etter at Sai-elven gikk over sine bredder torsdag, noe som fikk arbeiderne til å forsterke elvebredden på thailandsk side.
Klokken 09.00 fredag morgen hadde vannstanden ved vennskapsbroen mellom Thailand og Myanmar sunket med 60 centimeter siden klokken 04.00, men den er fortsatt på et kritisk nivå, melder lokale myndigheter.
Elvens overløp har ført til at Mae Sai nok en gang er oversvømt, og områder som Sai Lom Joy-markedet nær grensebyen Tachileik i Myanmar er særlig berørt.
Lokale mannskaper og soldater har blitt utplassert for å stable opp flere store sandsekker i nærheten av broen for å hindre ytterligere oversvømmelser i byen, som fortsatt er i ferd med å komme seg etter forrige måneds kraftige regnvær. Mae Sai er et av distriktene i den nordlige provinsen som ble hardt rammet av den nylige flommen.
I Chiang Mai steg Ping-elven fra 4,80 meter kl. 07.00 til 4,85 meter kl. 10.00 fredag, og nådde dermed også kritiske nivåer.
Det advares om mulige oversvømmelser senere på dagen, ettersom store mengder vann fra distriktene oppstrøms, inkludert Chiang Dao, strømmet mot Muang-distriktet.
Chiang Mai kommunekontor rapporterte at arbeidere og frivillige hjelper lokalbefolkningen og turister i oversvømte områder, og hjelper dem med å flytte til tryggere steder.
