Island isolation to save Phuket, save Sandbox, says Governor
PHUKET: Phuket Governor Narong woonciew has defended the move to deny all but essential travel to Phuket starting next Tuesday (Aug 3), saying it is the only way to save the Phuket Sandbox scheme, and save Phuket’s hopes of economic recovery.
PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) marked 35 new local COVID-19 infections on the island yesterday (July 30), bringing the total number of people recognised as infected with COVID-19 in Phuket since Apr 3 to 1,108.

Police probe staged protest photos of bodies left on Phuket Town streets
PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police have launched an investigation into staged photos posted online showing white shrouds spattered with blood strewn on the streets of Phuket Town in protest over the government’s handling of the current outbreak of COVID-19.
PHUKET: The heavy downpours and strong winds are expected to continue across Phuket and neighbouring coastal provinces until next Wednesday (Aug 4), according to a weather advisory issued by the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).
BANGKOK: Thailand has at least 177 Indochinese tigers roaming in the wild this year, an increase of 17 from last year, according to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP).
